Textildruckerei Heinrich Mayer GmbH is an owner-managed family firm based in Germany’s Swabian Alb region. It is active in the development of smart textiles, with a focus on hybrid and coating solutions printed on textile and non-textile carrier materials. The company has special expertise in combining coatings with electronic and sensor know-how. Managing director Michael Steidle is largely responsible for this focus. As a master electronics technician by trade, he drives forward the development of functional coatings that make textiles shine, heat or function as switches. The uses of these innovations range from exclusive one-offs for automobile interiors to long runs for, say, the furniture industry.
Resistant, protective textiles
As part of the CERAPUR product family, a 3D hard coating made of ceramic with functions from flame retardant to luminous, the company is working on a particularly resistant and abrasion-resistant variant. In the area of PPE, the textile print shop has developed a glove with printed functional surfaces, i. e. palm and fingers. Coating takes place in two steps: First comes the protective surface for the necessary resistance, before the necessary flexibility and “sensitivity” is printed. The fingertips are particularly difficult: here the demands on puncture and cut protection as well as on tactility are the highest.
