Hohenstein is an accredited testing laboratory and research partner employing about 1,000 employees world-wide. In addition to the testing and certification of textiles, Hohenstein’s core competencies are the application-oriented research in the areas of textile technology, product performance, medical textiles, as well as bioeconomics, and environmental technology. One successfully completed research project was, for example, the project “Protein-based textile finish”. In co- operation with the Fraunhofer IGB located in Straubing, we worked on the development of fluorocarbon-free, water and dirt repellent textiles or paper on the basis of fungal proteins.
On the world market, there is an increased demand for organic cotton. To support quality assurance and the respective certifications, Hohenstein offers testing of cotton for genetic modifications (GMO). The molecular biological analysis systems have been especially optimized for cotton products. With this test, a clear statement can be made as to whether cotton material or textiles are free from GMO cotton or not. The lab tests developed by Hohenstein thus allow the continuous traceability along the entire textile chain.
