Gruschwitz Textilwerke AG from Leutkirch is a leading manufacturer, throughout Europe, of technical twists, yarns and sewing threads for the automotive and medical industry, and other industrial applications. Besides natural fibers, the innovative twisting specialist from Allgäu processes virtually all of the chemical and high-performance fibers available worldwide, with state of the art twisting, winding and braiding machines. Efficient single-yarn coating lines enable the additional functionalization of yarns. With innovative power, flexibility and quality awareness, Gruschwitz successfully accompanies its customers, from the initial idea, all the way to serial production – and they have been doing so for more than 200 years!
Polyfluorinated chemicals (PFC) have excellent water and dirt- resistant properties, but they are considered to be damaging to the environment and dangerous to the health. Therefore, the shoe and clothing industries are working towards eliminating the use of fluorinated chemicals and therefore need, amongst others, sewing threads with PFC-free hydrophobization in order to produce their products. During intensive cooperation with textile chemical suppliers, Gruschwitz was able to introduce a new generation of sewing threads, produced by means of a PFC-free hydrophobization process, to the market. Through careful adaptation of all of the production processes, the hydrophobic properties of the new PFC- free products are even better than those produced by means of the old PFC technology.
