The Gesamtverband textil+mode represents the German textile and fashion industry, which consists of more than 1,400 mostly medium-sized companies. Together, they employ 135,000 people in Germany, and they achieve an annual turnover of approx. EUR 32 billion. As an umbrella association, Gesamtverband textil+mode represents the interests of the branch at federal level, in all economic policy matters. They also function as an employer’s association in the areas of social and tariff policy. Their members are of 12 regional associations and 13 industry associations.
The early focus on multifunctional, intelligent products has secured the German textile industry’s role as the worldwide leading innovators in the area of technical textiles. Be it for high-tech workwear, for architectural use, in medicine or also for ground or air travel: textiles are used in almost every area of life, and increasingly, their use is being combined with smart application options. From T-shirts that measure one’s blood pressure to carpets that are used in the care sector to report patient falls, and for use in dykes, as part of an early warning system: the use of textile fibers has almost no limit.
