Center of Maritime Technologies e.V.

The Hamburg-based Centre of Maritime Technologies e.V. has founded the maritime lightweight construction network MariLight.Net, with support from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, to promote new ideas and alternative approaches in the traditional shipbuilding industry. This network brings together expertise related to maritime lightweight construction that comes from different fields of industry all over Germany. It intends to facilitate the entry into the maritime sector for companies that usually operate in other non- related areas, for example, the textile industry. This requires specific efforts but will help the ship building industry remain sustainable through the latest technologies. With its many years of experience in research, development and innovation, the CMT is a competent supporter of this project.

Lightweight construction in shipbuilding

MariLight.Net brings together companies and research institutions and provides a common communication platform on specific issues of lightweight construction. In March 2019, the first conference organized by the network took place in Bremen. This two-day event was free of charge for all participants and offered expert talks and workshops. Examples of “Best Practices” were demonstrated with existing solutions and their applications. The agenda also included contributions from external fields that provided cross-industry expertise. With this, the network lays the foundations for innovations.
